Pragmatism and hope mingle amid standstills, as we greet the New Year.
In the season of industrious Capricorn, we’re urged to make plans while jolly ol’ Jupiter splashes in Pisces’ waters, lifting our spirits in the thick of Venus and Mercury reversals.
A new moon in practical Capricorn kicks off 2022 with an invitation to plan and prepare for a future that’s intended to last. This first lunation of the year gets a sweet boost from rebel planet Uranus, which could bring a pleasant surprise while making needed changes easier to accomplish. We’ll have time to consider what’s worth preserving and what needs resetting, as cost-conscious Venus continues her slow-mo journey in the sign of the Sea Goat. Mid-month, speedy Mercury joins the backward slide, requiring us to do some brainstorming and look inward before moving into another year. By the end of the month, the goddess of relationships and resources returns from her odyssey in the underworld bringing with her the boon of a clearer vision of what we truly love. As she reemerges, we remember that glimmer of hope on which the year began, and take on a new day’s lyric as we reach toward what’s next.

If you know your rising sign, read that first; it’s often more relevant.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) While the flurry of planets in your sign has a weightier feel, the fresh start is where it’s at for our Goat friends as the year begins with a new moon in your sign on January 2nd. What a mountain you’ve climbed to get here! With characteristic sober lens, your in-depth New Year’s resolution has you finalizing the details of the new contract and brushing up your personal brand. For more than any other sign, it’s a hard-earned new world coming for you. When Mercury slips into retrograde in your money sector on the 14th, you’ll be acutely focused on how you can be more fulfilled and even more valued on the job. By early February, you’ll be ready to name your price. A full moon on the 17th in your partnership house shifts the focus from me to we as an issue or, perhaps, opportunity reveals itself to find common ground with your significant other. This could offer a powerful emotional release, given all the changes that have transpired. Then all systems are a go when take-charge Mars marches into your sign (his favorite) on the 24th, inspiring you to tackle yet another mountain. It’s what you’re made for. Get it, Goats! get it!
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20–Feb. 18) Coming off the holiday buzz may require a bit of R&R for party-loving Water Bearers. With a complex of comic activity, plus the new moon on the 2nd in your house of retreat, you’re well supported in starting off the year with some serious soul-searching. This could bring insight to a hidden part of yourself that you’d like to debut in 2022. As fluent Mercury begins his retrograde mid-month in your sign, you could find yourself tripping over your words. Keep the gaffs at a minimum and practice the fine art of pausing before you hurtle head-long into any oration. A full moon on the 17th reveals something about your health and habits that you might need to address. As you tend to your bodily needs and nurture supportive rituals, you’re choosing optimum functioning, facing the year in good stead. Wise medicine, considering you’re likely still feeling the tension between your ruling planets, conservative Saturn and radical Uranus, that defined a major tension last year for everyone; the friction between these planetary titans continues well into 2022. As an old self-image falls away, you’re free to shift toward a higher standard and greater stability. Abundant Jupiter sailing through your money house for the next few months acts as an ally in the upgrading process; and as you bring your livelihood in line with your spiritual evolution, you could very well land your dream job and increase your material wealth in the wave of a wand. Welcome the year with the incantation: ‘I’m rich in spirit’. Keep it up and watch your life transform.
PISCES (Feb. 19–March 20) As 2022 rolls in, there is a coterie of planets hanging out in your house of social circles, instigating your networking savvy. The new moon on the 2nd could bring in a key contact or two, maybe even from right in your neighborhood. Positively uncanny. And yet, there’s something tapping on your shoulder, urging you to retreat. You may be best served using a portion of the month to contemplate the depths of your psyche, perhaps with Alan Watts’s book, “The Wisdom of Insecurity” in tow. This self-help classic spells out the reality that the only certainty in life is uncertainty and how to accept the fact by living fully in the moment. Beginning mid-month, tricky Mercury will be up to his antics as he backpedals through your house of the subconscious, cueing your monkey mind and stoking anxiety. Instead of allowing the darker, more twisted stories to define you, make time to quiet that busy mind. The full moon on the 17th may reveal a need for more creative or romantic space in your life. Consider setting aside the day in advance with the intention of having fun in your home studio, picking guitar licks with your best beloved. Your buddy Jupiter, is on the move in your house of identity, bringing a much-needed boost in self-confidence. Use this once in a 12-year opportunity to dream big! Toward the end of the month, as go-getter Mars zooms into your networking zone revived from the rest, you’re ready to tackle team efforts and tap your VIP list to support your New Year’s resolutions involving your future goals.
ARIES (March 21–April 19) Rams, if it seems like we talk a lot about work when it comes to your sign, well, we do. That’s because transformative Pluto has been hanging out in your career zone for years. We know that it’s been pretty darn painful at times, but you’ve only got another year-ish of it to go, and then that deep process should be done for good. Good riddance. We digress. Back to January 2022; you’ve got a boardroom of planets convening with deep-diving Pluto, hence, more work talk. A new moon in the same corner office on the 2nd reinvigorates your sense of potential, and you’re thinking more about your professional path; use this juicy super moon to set a new goal. Meanwhile, try not to sweat a slowdown in group projects, as Mercury takes a break in your house of cohorts and community. Between arctic blasts icing your front door shut and the Omicron variant keeping you from socializing, you may be missing your scene. Not to worry, things will get rolling again in February. The full moon on the 17th could expose a frustrating issue regarding the home renovations but don’t lose your cool. Everything is backed up right now. While it’s hard for an action-oriented sign like you to sit still, use any lags to throw another log on the fire and cozy up with your loved ones. Toward the end of the month your ruling planet, assertive Mars, charges into your career house, emboldening you to go after big-picture ambitions. Around the same time, gracious Venus will have finished her behind-the-scenes business, and you’ll be well positioned to claim some much-deserved recognition for all you’ve accomplished. Well done!
TAURUS (April 20–May 20) Dear Bulls, can you feel that new thing bubbling up? Something transformational is brewing for you as the North Node, the cosmic destiny indicator, enters your sign, where it will be for the next 18 months. Dare we say, your ambitions are awakening. The new moon that inaugurates the year is positively electrifying, juiced by game-changing Uranus in your sign. This crackling lunation sparks your trajectory, activating a new, bigger perspective. Use the Venus and Mercury retrogrades to ground your vision by designing a master plan. By the time your 2023 birthday rolls around, you may be unrecognizable (in a good way!). Usually slow to take action, once you’ve made up your mind, there’s no stopping you. We’re excited for you! Mid-month, speedy Mercury will reverse course in your career house giving you time to rethink and revise any negotiations around your upward mobility this year. Take a magnifying glass to it. Meanwhile, most of the cosmic action is stirring in your house of travel and higher education. You’re expanding your mind and building a new foundational philosophy. The full moon on the 17th sheds light on how you communicate your ideas. With all the big thinking going on, you’re operating on a higher frequency so it stands to reason you’ll be editing your writing and speaking skills, too. If you’re completing a writing project, it may be time to send it off to your editor. By the time the Sun shifts into Aquarius and into your career house on the 20th, you’re ready to broadcast your brilliance out to the masses. We’re all ears!
GEMINI (May 21–June 20) Money money money, Twins, it’s where your mind has been for a while and that train of thought continues through January 2022. There’s something deeper at work in the ol’ psyche. With a mess of planets in your house of metamorphosis, you’re called to reckon with an old ghost to clear some karma or childhood trauma for the sake of both your psychological and financial well-being. Best to allow Venus her careful assessment of this subterranean venue now because your ruler, Mercury is running rampant in your house of mind-expanding travel; you’re already feeling restless and planning your escape, dreaming up ambitious summertime adventures. A tied-down Gemini is a sad Gemini. Not your best look. By taking just a bit of fiscal responsibility now (we know, boring!), you’ll be charging up and down mountains all summer long. As always, the heavens have the antidote for all this serious inquiry; enter lucky Jupiter, knocking at your career house door. Open it! Offer up tea and cookies and watch the opportunities line up. Here’s a hint: choose the thing that brings you the greatest freedom. The full moon on the 17th puts your paycheck in the spotlight. Make sure all your hours are accounted for. Near the end of the month, the Red Planet heats up the party well underway in your house of intimacy and deep psychology. Rest assured, you’ll be motivated to delve into any heavy-hitting conversations necessary to express your desires and ask for what you want from your partner. You can see where this is going. Get ready for some steamy winter nights.
CANCER (June 21–July 22) The time for silently scuttling along the seafloor has passed, private Crab. You’re entering a relational phase at the beginning of 2022 that requires all your graciousness for your loved ones, as a clan of planets gathers in your house of partnerships. As we grow, our partners grow, too and so our relationships need reassessment from time to time. You can expect some necessary redefining and adjustments around primary one-to-ones in the days ahead. The new moon on the 2nd receives a vote of confidence from unconventional Uranus, supporting you in setting a bold goal tied to your relationships. Single Crabs, this a great opportunity to call in your ideal soulmate. As Mercury reverses course on the 14th in your house of intimacy and mystery, you’re funded a three-week period to tackle some deep-rooted emotional topics through transformative thinking and discussion. You may feel the need to assert yourself on the 17th and step away from the grind, as a full moon in your sign puts a spotlight on you. Because you can’t help but put others’ feelings before your own, this may be a wake-up call to prioritize your needs. All the while, expansive Jupiter is on board in your house of travel and higher learning, bouying your spirits and providing welcome distraction via visions of dream vacays or spiritual retreats once restrictions are lifted. Toward the end of the month, mighty Mars joins the reunion in your relationship house, giving you the stamina to tackle shared projects with partners and to settle any off-kilter relationship dynamics. This cooperative spirit continues as the month closes out and social Venus comes back online. By the time Valentine’s Day rolls around, hopefully, you’ll have smoothed out any riffs or wrinkles in your closest relationships. Sweet!
LEO (July 23–Aug. 22) No matter how big and brightly you shine, Leo, there is a limit to the reach of your rays. A cluster of planetary activity rumbling in your house of the body and daily work this month likely extends the exhaustion of December’s overexertion. Fire signs burn brightly, but burn out when they don’t take care of themselves. What’s a poor Kitty to do? Conservation is key in preserving endangered species—apply this same concept when considering your physical limits and how you operate. Let’s promote your longevity and prevent your extinction. With Venus idling on safari in this same territory, you’re stress-testing your daily habits to determine their sustainability long-term. It’s the little things we do, whether it’s flossing or sticking to regular exercise, that maintains a body or any system’s viability over time. Which habits or environments are conducive to the smooth running of your engines? You’re getting to know your limits and how much you want to get for how much you’re giving. Shocking though it may be, even you can’t do it all. Cut back and prioritize what’s important for your health, yes, but truly for your sanity. Speaking of which, a full moon later in the month makes an emotional appeal in your house of the unconscious. Karma is calling. Let those unexplainable tears flow, perhaps releasing lifetimes of suffering. Then, get some much-needed rest before taking on a more manageable jungle.
VIRGO (Aug. 23–Sept. 22) With a silo of cosmic activity filling your house of fun and creativity, your mission, should you choose to accept it, Virgins is to figure out what you love, and do it! If that involves a new collaborator or two, all the better as Jupiter assists with a bounty of opportunity in your house of partnerships. While your mind may be abuzz with ideas about work and how you can streamline your output as the new year kicks off, by mid-month a slower pace may help clarify just how and where you should be applying your efforts and talents. That’s when your ruler, speedy Mercury takes its first detour of 2022, leading you on a road less traveled to rediscover your creative process. Expect lags along this route, not as a sign of laziness (who, you?), but as an invitation to change the way you work. Consider this, maybe it needs to be more fun and joyful? How’s that for a New Year’s resolution? By the end of the month, you’ll have let go of old expectations, not to mention, hang-ups concerning your ability to perform and express yourself. Bring on the new era of creative ownership. With quality control measures firmly in place, proudly fly your singular flag; your original philosophy may be just what’s needed to meet the challenges of the year ahead.
LIBRA (Sept. 23–Oct. 22) Oh, ever the imperturbable sign, if your equilibrium has been off lately, alas, you’re not imagining things. With your ruler, lovely Venus astray in your house of foundational roots, you may be feeling discombobulated at your core. Before you go off on a whim, buying expensive furniture or redecorating in an effort to rectify all the things askew, sit yer arse down and take stock. It’s almost always better to pare down than add on. Fortunately, a new moon at the beginning of the month in this same domain, favorably aligned with shake-it-up Uranus, lends a hand with any changes in your environment. As you purge, you create a more pristine space both internal and external. Let the baggage go, dear Libra, and get your ducks in a row for the new year. This is all part of a process of reevaluating where you belong and reckoning how you want to live. A clean sweep on the homefront supports you in getting into the flow of your daily routine; as faith-full Jupiter glides through your house of work and health, you find joy in the little things. Chop wood, carry water. If you feel inspired to take up yoga or volunteer at a local animal shelter, follow the impulse—any practice you engage in at this time that helps you feel a part of something larger than yourself will support you in feeling more at home in the world.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23–Nov. 21) Now that buoyant Jupiter is free-diving in your house of fun and creativity, you’re feeling endless inspiration, Scorpio. Whatever you can envision now, you likely can create. To top it off, you’ve got faith in your creations. This sterling cosmic conversion happens once every 12 years—so milk it. With your enthusiasm humming along, you may be in the mood to splurge on creative projects or something that brings you plentiful pleasure. Sounds good to us! Meanwhile, a team of planetary players jockeys for position in your house of communication and networking. With value-conscious Venus well into her backward slide here as well, it’s wise to review all email messages and memos before sending. And take time to polish your writing and/or presentation skills. Mercury the messenger awkwardly trails behind mid-month, churning up some old thought pattern that may need rewiring. You’re deeply engaged in an internal conversation full of childhood memories, reevaluating ideas and considering what you have to say. As you ask the hard questions now, your message becomes more potent in the long run. All your relationships will benefit from clearer communication. By the time Venus moves forward at the end of the month and Mercury follows suit in early February, you’ll be standing up for yourself at work and directly asking your partner (or anybody else) for what you want.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22–Dec. 21) Home is not only where the heart is but likely the seat of power for much of 2022 for you, dear Archer. Astrological PR has it that Sagittarius is the best sign. Who are we to disagree? With your ruling planet, abundant Jupiter splashing about in your house of roots and family for the next few months, this is a stellar time to invest in your home life. Think of your homebase as a creative incubator for dreams to take form, to envision that shimmering future. You’ll feel a boost from high-powered Mars racing through your sign for most of the month, fueling the energy and drive needed to go after what you want. If you can jibe with the start/stop pacing that’s inevitable with Venus and soon Mercury reversing course in your money house, it should be smooth sailing. Crack open a fresh ledger to begin planning your long-term financial strategy with the auspicious new moon on January 2nd. With a favorable nod from surprising Uranus, this lunation could bring an unexpected opportunity to increase your income. Stay open to invitations from old friends who want to collaborate on a potential money making venture and reevaluate a buried talent that could be monetized in the future. Practice patience when delays related to getting paid occur or if someone walks back on an offer. By the end of the month, with Venus back on track, the check will come through and a better offer is on the table. A full moon on the 17th, illuminates your house of shared resources and deep psychology. Let the floodgates open to release old wounds. Also, get a jump on your taxes.
